An ecological freak of nature left behind by Ice Age glaciers. About 100 acres with a cool, damp micro-climate. A cold, alkaline spring keeps the bog unusually cool and damp, while its cool air is held still and steady by warm air currents above. The highly unusual environment hosts over 100 rare and endangered species of creatures and plants which couldn’t survive outside the bog. A 1-mile boardwalk through the bog takes visitors across the thick muck to otherwise inaccessible habitats. Very interesting outdoor excursion.
